Boston Climate Tech: November 21-December 4
Exploring Food Justice&Resilience, Carbon to Value Initiative Final Showcase & More
Hi all! This is the Boston Climate Tech newsletter. This newsletter is a digest of community-submitted in-person climate tech events in the Greater Boston area coming up in the next 2 weeks or so.
The next two weeks are light weeks, so if you would like to do some additional reading, here are a few podcast/book/media lists you might useful:
I also particularly like sharing Pique Action short videos with friends and family who don’t know much about climatetech. These short films focus on climate solutions, and in their words, is “the opposite of doomscrolling”. Maybe you’ll find it helpful for sharing with loved ones this holiday season!
As always, for the full calendar, check out https://bit.ly/boston-climatetech-events

The MIT Asian American Initiative, in collaboration with MIT Asian Women's Alliance & the MIT Libraries, presents: Exploring Food Justice, Resilience, & Entrepreneurship, a conversation with Tracy Chang. Tracy Chang is the owner and Chef of Pagu Restaurant in Cambridge, MA.
Led by the Asian American Initiative, this event caps off a series of hands-on explorations around Asian American food justice and agriculture in fall 2022. Through our conversation with Tracy Chang, we seek to provide access to and knowledge about cultural foods, while exploring themes of women’s entrepreneurship, resilience, and sustainability.
There will be refreshments and appetizers provided by Pagu at the beginning of this event. We do recommend you arrive early as space and the amount of food is limited.
This event will take place in the Nexus of Hayden Library, room 14S-130 at 5pm on Tuesday, November 29th.

At this event, attendees will:
Hear presentations from the C2V Year 2 Cohort of carbontech startups developing technology and business innovations to capture, convert, and/or sequester carbon
Learn from carbontech experts
Have the opportunity to network with government, nonprofit, and corporate executives from the Carbontech Leadership Council
Meet with carbontech entrepreneurs, investors, and other climate champions
Agenda (6:00 - 8:00 pm EST)
5:30 - 6 :00 pm - Check-In and Networking
6:00 - 6:30 pm - Welcome Remarks & keynote speaker (to be announced)
6:30 - 7:00 pm - Startup presentations
7:00 - 8:00 pm - Networking Reception (In-Person)
The C2V Initiative's Year 2 Cohort:
Aluminum Technologies has developed Carbo-Chloride Reduction (CCR) aluminum manufacturing technology, which captures process CO2 and also reduces power consumption relative to conventional methods.
Carbon Upcycling Technologies utilizes point-source CO2 and mineralizes it with waste materials to create supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) that can be used in building materials.
Carbonova utilizes CO2 and methane as a feedstock to produce carbon nanofibers (CNF) that may be used in various fields such as transportation and buildings.
ecoLocked converts waste biomass into biochar to create admixes that can replace a share of the cement used in concrete manufacturing, and thus sequester carbon within buildings.
Full Cycle Bioplastics has a patented bacteria-based technology that converts organic waste into Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), a biopolymer that can be used to replace a wide range of oil-based plastic applications.
Lydian Labs develops an electro-thermal reactor technology that converts captured CO2 into fuels and chemicals.
Molecule Works develops a solid sorbent Direct Air Capture (DAC) system using a novel reactor and contactor configuration.
Osmoses develops polymers for gas separation, enabling membrane-based carbon capture applications.
Learn more about the startups in our C2V Year 2 Cohort Book!
The C2V Initiative is a multi-year collaboration among The Urban Future Lab (UFL), Greentown Labs, and the Fraunhofer USA. This unique partnership is driving the creation of a thriving innovation ecosystem for the commercialization of carbontech—technologies that capture, convert, and sequesterstore carbon dioxide (CO₂) into valuable end products or services. The C2V Initiative is supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), and tYear 2 Cohort Champion Fluor Corporation, and the Carbontech Leadership Council members.
